So I am in the middle of helping the young men plan their super activity. We are talking about doing Young Men versus the Wild. Which gets me to think would I be able to survive in the wild?
we started to talk about a book that some of the young men loved. I read My Side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead George about a boy who runs away from home and lives on his own in the wild. Could I do that? Could I live alone in the wild and live off the land?
My first thought is NO WAY JOSE. I would be dead in a week. Okay I might be able to survive but I would be very very unhappy. I can barely sleep when I am sleeping on an air mattress in a tent. I feel like an old man when I camp. How old would I feel if I didn’t have a tent, a mattress, or a blanket?
Could I start fire with just two sticks? Could I catch a fish with no fishing pole? Could I eat bugs?
I guess I will find out when I go up camping with young men. We are going to try to start a fire with two sticks. We are going to try to catch a fish with nothing but what we have on us. We are even going to build a shelter to sleep under.
Lets hope it doesn’t rain.
