Super Duper Exhausted – But for a very very good reason.

This might be how my wife and I look. Absolutely and totally exhausted. Why are we so tired? Out partying over the weekend? No that’s not why. The reason is because a 30 pound girl can take up 80% of a queen size bed.

I know what you are thinking. Why in the world would you let your girl share your bed? The tragedy in Connecticut has hit our household quite hard. My wife is a first grade teacher and just imagining that there is even a possibility of that happening has made her a bit of an emotional wreck this weekend.

I got home from work on Friday but had to almost immediately head to a work party that night. By the time we got home it was late and we put our tired little girl right to bed. Sometime around 4 a.m. my cute little girl decides to climb into our bed. She does this quite often and usually I let her lay down for ten minutes and move her right back to her bed.

This morning was different. After the tragedy on Friday I wanted to hug my daughter a little longer. Okay a lot longer. Sure I didn’t get much sleep over the next four hours even though she slept like a log snoring in my ear and hogging even more of the bed. But I got quite a bit of time to enjoy the moment with her.

As we all found out in a very horrible way life can be too short. So short that we need to take in every moment. Hug our children a little bit longer and yes if we must let them wreck a few hours of sleep so we can build wonderful moments together.

  1. What a beautiful story. I am feeling the exact same way…probably everyone is. I held my kids closer and struggled letting them go this morning. I weep for those lost. Words can not express the pain our nation is feeling. Things like this shouldn’t happen.
